It has potential but at latter stages, if you screwed up:

1. Planets will have close to 100% defense.
2. Planets will send defenses to other planets.
3. Unless you have enough to overwhelm ALL of them at once, you'll be stuck.

This sends the game into an endless negative loop. You can't progress, you can't do anything.
