0.16.0 mostly focuses on bugfixes and QoLs. However, the earliest two maps (Rome and Athens) deserve some love - they are buffed a bit to bring them more in line with newer maps.

# Development Status

Its been a while since there was new end game content. Part of that is due to other things being worked on since the last content update, mainly the 75+ re-balance and mobile version launch. But the other reason its taking so long is just how much work there was to do to get the next major system in place.

As has been hinted/mentioned before, that new system is Fleet. This is the final major system that was "planned" for the game and as such is the biggest and most involved. This also means I want it to be very, very good. And part of making it that good involves letting go of ideas that didn't work out fully or just were not good enough, so I've discarded a lot of ideas and work on it over the last several months.

But as of this post, Fleet as a system is 95% in place and testing is in progress.

However, Fleet is not the _only_ thing coming in the next content patch, and there is still a bit of work to do there. Sorry but no ETA as i'll probably just miss it

# Fleet

Note: Everything in here is still subject to change and the UI is not fully done.

The core mechanic within Fleet are the Fleet Battles. This is completely separate from the endless battling your ship does.

**Instead, you will be strategically building and deploying your fleet in various battles that will then play out.**

**These battles reside within galaxies where you will increase your fleet size and capability over time.**

**Fleet ties back into the rest of the game via Reinforces in 2 ways.**

First, the main way you progress in galaxies is by using Fleet Resources (name might change) to deploy your ships and make various improvements on different nodes in the galaxy. These Fleet Resources are based on the highest sector you have Reinforced at (essentially what is currently Fleet Power in game now). You can improve your total within a galaxy, but the more you have to begin with, the faster you can make progress.

Second, within the galaxy you will be collecting an Artifact resource, which can then be used to acquire various upgrades for other systems. These upgrades will activate upon Reinforce.

To go with this, Reinforces after the 5th one will switch from the current "reach a specific sector for upgrades" style to an open ended one.

### But this is an Idle game, not an Autobattler Roguelike!

Yes, this is an Idle game about managing various systems and decision making first and foremost. What that means is the Fleet battles themselves, and the decisions around them (ship placement, which ships to bring, which upgrades to use) need to be very well balanced to be interesting and fun with some decisions to make, but not be insanely complex or bothersome to do repeatedly.

That is what I am currently working on right now and testing. Since it is incredibly important to get right, it will probably take a while still just in that respect.

# All The Rest

In addition to Fleet coming in this next update, all the other systems will of course get more content and changes, so heres a few more minor teasers in that regard.

# The Even Further Future

Once this next content update is in place, future ones will come much faster (for real this time) since nothing nearly as big and development time consuming as Fleet is on the horizon.

Fleet is the final major system, but I have a lot of content planned for it and all the other systems still, so there is a ways to go! And there are things outside of just content that are planned also.

**There will be quite a bit more gameplay content yet to come**

### Engine Upgrade

This game is made in Godot on version 3.5\. An update to the latest version (4.3) with a different rendering engine and other improvements will be coming. This should help performance across the board and even more noticeably on Mobile.

### UI Glam Up

The UI is still rather rough and barebones, it will be getting both a facelift in terms of looks, but also a bit of a re-arrangement in some cases. This will also include interface sounds and more background music.

### Story

For story, all we really have is that opening text blob, and some sorta kinda storyish things in the tutorials. I originally wanted more, but have just kept sidelining it for gameplay. However, I do think the game would be **much** better if there was an interesting story being revealed over time.

The team has been working hard behind the scenes and we are excited to finally announce our **“Create a Mod”** contest for 2024! We had some incredible submissions in 2023, so we are extremely excited to see what 2024 has to offer.

We’ve partnered with [Mod.io](https://mod.io/) for this contest. We’ll use their website for submissions. Details around the voting process for this year are listed below, as it has changed from what we did last year.

The theme of this contest is **“content”**. This means you are tasked to create a Mod for Melvor Idle that adds some form of new content to the game.

Hi all,

the past few weeks were focused mostly on finalizations and visuals so there's not many new things to show. But a handful of features are still probably worth mentioning.

## Wonders redesign

One of the problems of existing wonder system is that you can always build all wonders you unlocked. In some sense this prevented the wonders to become economically powerful, otherwise your wonders could overshadow your workshops productivity. With a few more wonders added the game could easily become centered on them and not on workshops.

To address this, as of 0.9 Wonders will undergo a complete redesign of their ability powers. Some will be affected more than others, but generally wonders will be thoroughly buffed to get economical significance. That huge economic buff has however three drawbacks.

First drawback is that wonders will now use workshop slots. So building a wonder will force you to decide which workshop you will not build (or demolish).

Second drawback is that wonders will be unlocked with technology, so you can no longer build Eiffel tower in neolithic era.

The Third drawback is that Wonders can be Destroyed by Crises and cannot be rebuilt. Some crises may later even specialize on destruction of wonders.

As a result Wonders will now be able to fine-tune your build when you specialize your economy. So this opens a way to introducing more Wonders to the game with more significant economical powers.

## Stonehenge and Ceremonial Wonders

The existing Stonehenge Lotus gaining ability is relatively fool-proof. You build it and by using its mechanism you simply gain Lotuses right away.

In the new version, you will have to keep the Stonehenge intact until ascension to gain it's lotus value. Also the lotus value itself will be increased through it's Ceremony ability which will have it's own problems and risks attached.

There will be a few similar wonders (each for different era), that allow Lotus gain through their Ceremony ability. The trick is that as was mentioned above, each wonder takes up a workshop slot. So having four Ceremonial wonders may yield you a great reward in ascension, but it may slow down your progress significantly if you have no way to compensate the workshop loss.

## Forts redesign

Fortresses Shield ability was designed to be simple. Block a single attack. However as the game grew bigger and difficulty had to scale up, it forced the introduction of Unblockable attacks. This did not feel right to introduce this early.

So to allow more flexibility in balancing difficulty, shield ability on forts will now have a percentage chance of success. Instead of increasing instances of shields with Fort upgrade, Forts will improve their block chance.

Since this drastically lowers the usefulness of forts, some collateral rebalancing will have to occur. Forts will be made cheaper (0.9 already makes it easier to increase the cap) and some tougher Crises most likely will be nerfed (era bosses for instance)

## 0.9 Beta coming in about 2 weeks

The current 0.9 version is relatively close to being publicly playable. At the minimum though it needs 2 weeks work to finalise all gaps and fix all known bugs. After that unless there are some new problems I would release the 0.9 into the experimental branch.

It will contain all the map stuff we talked about so far. If possible I will add some of the planned Tier 2 features throughout the beta. But the plan of that bit is still vague.

## What's next

Besides testing and balancing, the only remaining major feature to finish is the Diplomacy redesign with the use of Dilemma cards. This redesign will affect Tribal Villages and other Civilizations (added in 0.9) and the way you acquire Trade Routes and other boosts. The mechanism of dilemmas will stay the same, but the card effects will be more impactful (especially towards the Map).

Hello Everyone,

after the v0.7 Update we are seeing a large wave of new players coming in. This is super exciting. We are looking forward to learn from all your feedback & see the factories you will build!

We have released v0.7.41 yesterday and v0.7.42 today. Here is what's new:

## Copy & Paste 2.0

Until now, when you wanted to paste something, be it from your clipboard or from a blueprint, you had to have enough resources to pay all the parcel costs upfront. This inherently limited the size of pasting you could do and also lead to a loop where you would need to wait for resources to paste and then wait again, which is not fun.

We solved this issue by introducing a new drone task: "Build Parcel"

Now, when you want to paste, we don't have to check if you have all the resources. You can just paste. And the parcel will be bought and built after.

This should significantly change the flow of the game, boosting both, active and passive play:
- Passive Players can now paste a bunch of parcels down and let it run in the background
- Active Players can paste any sized blueprints which makes scaling so much more enjoyable

Especially in combination with Alt+Dragging to copy parcels, factory building can get really flowy:

## Guiding

We reworked the tutorial to now guide you through all important elements & shortcuts.
This might be too much for some, we will add the option to hide the tutorial as well for those.

If you haven't seen certain tutorials you will see them, just do the tasks and they will be hidden. And you might even learn a trick or two you haven't been aware of :)

## Bug Fixes

Lots of bugs have been fixed. Notably:
- Dark screen issues in relation to renaming blueprints
- Failed tasks that got stuck
- Hotkeys not registering
- Lots of small issues

## Closing Thoughts & Next Steps

Again, thank you everybody who is joining in on the fun & playing with us. We are seeing new record numbers of players which is extremely exciting & makes us really grateful that we are allowed to serve you guys in building this unique and wacky factory builder :)

Next Steps:
- First we will keep polishing and improving the current version –> please send all the feedback on our discord or the discussions here on steam
- Then we will work on new content. There is lots that wants to be added. There are a few possible options. In any case, rest assured, the factory will grow!
