WorldShaper Idle review

It's ok. It has offline progress, simple graphics, and nice core mechanics. However, I found two main drawbacks.

-There's no help or guidance. It took me a while to discover certain combinations, like the Factory City. The game requires you to figure out a LOT on your own, combinations, optimal strategies, combinations of combinations, and so on. It becomes a bit mentally draining if you really want to progress far into the game.

-It's clearly designed to be played over several days, either by leaving it running or by coming back later to collect offline progress. You can't really play it in one sitting. That would be fine if there were more interesting things to do, but most of the gameplay is just more of the same. You'll spend an entire day grinding for a new tile, then hours figuring out new combinations to optimize your existing grid with that new tile. It's interesting, but also frustrating, because you constantly have to throw away part of your current setup and start over with a new strategy.

The game feels artificially extended through excessive prices to keep you hooked with minimal content, instead of relying on new combinations, new tiles, and city growth or maybe different resources as the main source of progression. The grind is way too heavy, taking hours or even days, and the rewards aren't as satisfying as you'd expect since they're usually just a new tile you'd get after hours or days of waiting. I spent a bit less than a day to get the mushrooms and they're not as game changing as I was expecting which was pretty disappointing.

If you like to grind and spend days on the same game barely unlocking new content maybe this is the game for you.
