Outlast Life review

Yeah, it's not awful, I didn't hate it. It didn't blow me away, but it's a functional package, some hours of playtime and then it ends...although, fair warning the end is pretty anticlimactic! Still, I liked it more than I didn't, it's still better than neutral...but not exactly exceptional in any regard either, so 4/5 feels right. A solid...7/10 experience, I'd say? Maybe up to an 8/10, but there are some unnecessarily long waits, and the skill tree is kinda unbalanced, and some things don't give you as much feedback as I'd like...and it is one of those games that gets really slow at the end, where you're basically just waiting with nothing else you can actually DO to speed up the wait, just waiting for an ending that winds up not really being a payoff at all, only worth it in the sense that it lets you know it's NOT worth it.

But still, I finished it, I didn't hate it, and I did like it more than I didn't, so 4/5, since this site doesn't allow half stars. I didn't have to deal with any randomness in the progression, it didn't force me to click constantly or waggle my mouse around like SO many other games on this site do, it's not 15 minutes long like the majority of new games added to this site...it's serviceable! It's genuinely hard to even find 4/5 games here nowadays, and unlike most games I play here, I didn't hate this one. And my standards are pretty high, so...

...If I were to suggest any avenues for improvement, I definitely think the late-game could've used more upgrades to smooth out the unnecessarily long waits later on, and we could've used more goals to make use of the final upgrades. As it is, it's one of those games that feel somewhat unfinished when you end them, like the end was still being developed and was abandoned as-is rather than fully fleshing it out to bring it up to the standards of the rest of the game.

But this game still did a lot right that many other games on here don't! So, might as well give it a shot. (It doesn't have sound though, so you'll probably want to find something else to listen to while you play, which is a bit unfortunate.) I'd give more details on the game itself, but...you don't really need a summary, you can get that from trying the game yourself or just looking at its description.
