North Depths review

It shows potential with a unique concept and nice aesthetics, but unfortunately, the gameplay doesn't hold up. Despite being a fan of grind-heavy games, I found the experience excessively tedious. The amount of manual clicking required is overwhelming, especially early on when automation is limited and only applies to half of the core mechanics.

Worse still, there’s no way to improve the effectiveness of manual clicks within the early stages, which makes progression feel slow and unrewarding. The interface is functional but unintuitive, requiring some trial and error to navigate. Additionally, while sound settings exist, they don’t allow you to mute the ambient effects—a frustrating oversight when I'm trying to run the game in the background.

Overall, it feels like a good idea hampered by incomplete and imbalanced execution. As a game jam entry, some rough edges are expected, but the lack of meaningful progression systems makes it difficult to stay engaged.

Edit: And I just now learned it has NO save system, so combined with the excruciating grind you're unlikely to progress anywhere meaningful.
