EDIT I posted an overeager review before playing the game, which I adress and correct after the actual review that I wrote after finishing the game.
! Actual review ! As a fan of Antimatter Dimensions I was initially sceptical of this game. After trying out Revolution Idle I figured out that while the game has a very similar feel to its predecessor, it is putting its own spin on the core concepts instead of simply copying.
Apart from the graphics and the very first mechanic, nothing in Revolution Idle will be new to someone who finished Antimatter Dimensions. That is fine however as the mechanics are implemented in different ways with a progression curve that feels smoother in my opinion. After reaching Unity after a couple months (logical equivalent to Reality in AD), the game diverts entirely with entirely fresh mechanics pretty fast.
Overall this game is in my opinion a great play on its own and a great additional play for players coming from AD. It captures the relentless progression very well while providing a lot of additional content.
! Statement to original review ! When deciding on whether to play this game or not I encountered multiple persuasive reviews and comments stating this is essentially a copyright infringement on Antimatter Dimensions. I decided to relay this information here and made the original review based on that. After receiving multiple contrary responses here I reconsidered and evaluated the claims myself. After screening the code base of both games I came to the conclusion that the original information was insubstantial. I decided to keep the original text of the review at the bottom to give relevant context for others looking into this review section.
Regarding the copy allegations: This game takes extensive inspiration from Antimatter Dimensions, which stood out negatively to a lot of people playing the classic. A lot of the structuring around the multiple reset layers, challenges and differing mechanics are similar in nature. Also, which tipped off people additionally, Revolution Idle copies the names of the first few reset layers and a couple mechanics, like infinities, eternities and dilation. This is acknowledged in Revolution Idle by shouting out Antimatter Dimensions and its creator in the credits directly below this game's creator. As people in the responses have pointed out, the base mechanics of the game are not actually the same however. And not only does Revolution Idle change up all of those, it adds substantially to each of them and diverges after a certain point in naming as well. To be certain, I compared the code of the two games and found no significant overlap. Not only is the engine / programming language different (Unity vs NodeJS) and the resulting code structure barely comparable, the naming of labels (classes / methods) does not indicate literal inspiration from the predecessor. Obviously terms like "infinity", "eternity" and "challenge" will appear in both, but I could not discern any duplication or other foul play.
I apologize for essentially spreading misinformation and learned a lesson about propagating unverified information, especially in agitational fashion.
Original Text: Apparently just a reskin of Antimatter Dimensions with AI art and Microtransactions. Play Antimatter Dimensions instead. This is a blatant insult to open source and incremental games.
