I really wish this game had the depth it hints at, but it's so short that you just plow through and buy everything. Some of the upgrades tease being able to use different builds, like the upgrade that rewards you if you breed enough creatures to end with more than you started with, but it doesn't seem practicable to actually trigger it, for example. Good foundation, but a shallow execution.
