More Sushi! review

I've never particularly enjoyed when buying an upgrade actively lowers my income per second. It's especially egregious when the game doesn't show you the stats of future sushi types until you buy them. Oh, I'll save $15k for this new sushi type...and it sells for half of the previous type until I upgrade it for $19k, at which point it'll only be on par.

See, every time the big sushi in the middle gets clicked, by you or an automated helper, you have a chance to get each type of sushi you've unlocked. I have 2 sushi types unlocked, and about an 80% chance to get the good one worth $105 per. I unlock the next sushi tier, and it's only worth $50 at first tier. I now have a 30% chance to get this type instead, lowering the chance to get the good sushi to around 62%. I had to save up for a bit to get the $15k to unlock the new sushi, and now I'd need to save $19.5k to upgrade it to...$101 per.

The value of this sushi and the chance to get it were not shown before purchasing it. I could not have known it would lower my income before purchasing it, nor by how much. My reward for saving up for the purchase is my income directly being lowered substantially, and to fix that I would need to save even more while making less. Even saving up 19k to unlock the new sushi would only get it to around the same value as the previous tier, I'd need to get the next upgrade too to maybe actually increase my income.

You see the problem here? I just don't get this type of design, honestly. Why penalize the player for investing cash by actively lowering their income? What purpose does it serve? It's not like I made some mistake I was punished for here, I invested in unlocking higher tiers of sushi that should sell for more. Again, the game does not show the sushi's stats until after you buy it. It's just...nonsensical. The developer apparently plans to sell this on steam, too, this is just a demo. They have a button asking you to wishlist it on steam and everything. I REALLY don't think it's worth it, though, unless they completely overhaul the game mechanically before full release. As it is, it feels too rough and unpolished mechanically to be worth the time.
