We Need More Humans! review

Hi Matt!

It’s a solid prototype, especially considering that it is still a prototype. Here’s some feedback.

The good: -The gameplay is addictive. -It’s very fun during the first 10 to 15 minutes.

The bad: -Unfortunately, it runs out of content fairly quickly. Unless you add different cities, cows, and other elements, I’m not sure how this could evolve into a full game, though it might work well as a mobile title. -The ray feels too finicky. I think collisions might need some attention, since they don’t seem to work smoothly with the isometric perspective. The game becomes much more playable once you have a decent radius, but before that it feels a bit frustrating and less enjoyable. -Upgrades become expensive after around 20 minutes of gameplay, and the scaling feels off since it doesn’t seem exponential. -There is a lack of clear screen information. I wanted to see my maximum abductee capacity and how many I was currently using so I could decide whether upgrading was necessary. A label like “abducting 7/20” would help a lot, where 20 is the max abductee count and 7 is the number currently being lifted by the ray. Maybe even change the color to red when it's at 20/20 so I can clearly see I need to take it into account on the next upgrades selection. -Circles feel too expensive relative to their impact. -Please add a save system, even a simple local one. It only takes a few lines of code and would make a big difference. At minimum, saving upgrades would be great. Even for a prototype, it’s nice to be able to come back and continue later.

In summary The core gameplay is fun, but it’s hard to sustain that fun over time without introducing new elements. My main concern is how this could evolve into a full game without becoming a repetitive minigame with different backgrounds. It needs more systems and mechanics, maybe fighting the military, improving shields, adding turrets, or anything that expands the experience beyond what it currently offers.

In any case, it was fun, good luck with the prototype!
