This is basically a dungeon-crawler/RNG loot drop game like Diablo, except without the fun part.
You go into the dungeon, you and the enemy auto-smack each other for a while until you die or retreat. You get random gear as loot. Back in town you either equip the gear, sell it for gold, or scrap it for dust.
Gold lets you buy random items from the merchant. Or you can upgrade your gear using gold+dust at the smith, which lets you do things like re-roll the stats, replace a random stat with a different one, upgrade the item's rarity, etc...
That's the whole game basically. Go into dungeon, wait until you die, evaluate the loot, maybe get better stuff. Repeat. You could probably describe this as an elaborate slot machine.
Maybe that sounds awesome to you. For me it's very boring. I got to about level 19 after ~2 hours and after 10 runs of not getting any better loot than I had, I called it.
There are caps on how much gold/dust you can carry. I was capped. There are caps on how many times you can smith your gear. I had already smithed my gear as much as possible. I was in RNG hell just waiting for the game to drop something better.
And the worst part is, despite having "idle" in the title, you can't idle to get better gear. If you want better gear, you have to increase the difficulty, and that means you will die. And you need to manually restart. There are no options to auto-sell items below a certain rarity, or to auto-enter the dungeon again after dying.
It's only idle if you lower the difficulty a lot (so you don't die), and at that point you get crap loot. The only reason to do that is to get XP to level up, and leveling up gives very minor random bonuses (like +0.5% damage, +1% max HP, etc...) Those bonuses have almost no impact on the game (at least not at level 19).
