You go down alone.
It plays itself. Your feet do the walking and your blade swings itself. Whatever bars the passage is settled where you stand, blow for blow, and the best of what falls out of it arms itself. Watch the whole descent, or leave it running and read the chronicle when you come back.
It is a 1994 DOS RPG. Two hundred lines with the pixels stretched back out the way a monitor of the day stretched them. A fixed palette of 256 colours with ordered dithering, and nothing on screen outside it. Torchlight quantised to thirteen levels, so the corridor bands as it falls away into black. Flat billboard beasts, right angled stone, and a chunky bevelled frame around the view, filling the whole window with no border and no black bars.
What is down there:
- Five works of stone and twenty five beasts, from plague rats up to a dread lich
- One adventurer, rolled at enrolment with a folk, a trade and the six ability scores
- Loot in seven grades that arms itself, and gear that wears down and wants a smith
- Barred doors with the key hidden down a side passage, flooded troughs, collapsed tunnels
- Floors that turn you back at the stair until you are strong enough for them
- Up to four hours credited to you while you are away
- Character slots
- Tons of upgrades!!
It is early version and I am going to iterate iterate and add new fun stuff.
