Watching Paint Dry is an experimental, philosophical idle game that transforms a mundane task into a meditative journey of self-discovery. As your Focus grows, you don't just buy faster clicks; you invest in Perceptual Acuity, Mental Fortitude, and even Transcendent Insights.

The wall is not static. It lives and breathes with a full day/night cycle that affects what you can see. Your own alertness wanes, forcing you to rest or brew a cup of coffee to continue your vigil. At night, a torch is your only guide to the wall's deepest secrets.

This is not a game about numbers going up. It's a game about what happens in the quiet moments. Through philosophical musings and contemplative questions, the game invites you to look inward.

Gameplay The objective is to observe the wall, acknowledge its imperfections, and delve deeper into its—and your own—nature.

Core Loop

1. Observe: Move your mouse, which acts as a magnifying glass, to find subtle imperfections on the wall's surface.
2. Acknowledge: Click on imperfections like dust motes, micro-fissures, and growing cracks.
3. Gain Resources: Each acknowledgment earns you Focus, the primary resource for growth, and Insight for deeper contemplation.
4. Upgrade: Spend your resources in the "Internal State" panel to enhance your perceptual abilities, mental fortitude, and unlock powerful new mechanics.
5. Transcend: Progress far enough to experience Epiphanies, prestige, and uncover the wall's ultimate secret.

Features

• A Living Wall: The environment is not static. It ages, changes color with a full day/night cycle, develops subtle textures, and is affected by dynamic lighting.

• Deep Upgrade System: Unlock dozens of upgrades across categories like Perceptual Acuity, Mental Fortitude, and Transcendent Insights. Enhance your magnification, recognize hidden patterns, or even learn to communicate with the wall.

• Resource Management:

  • Focus: The main currency, used to purchase most upgrades.
  • Insight: A secondary currency gained through deep observation, used for powerful transcendent abilities.
  • Alertness: A meter that decreases over time. Low alertness can blur your vision and cause strange side effects. Rest or use items to restore it.

• Crafting & Consumables: Purchase upgrades to unlock crafting recipes:

  • Coffee: Brew a cup with Shift+C to restore your alertness and stay focused.
  • Torch: Use your torch with T to illuminate your surroundings during the dark night phase. Purchase more batteries to keep it powered.

• A Philosophical Journey: The game is peppered with philosophical musings and contemplative questions that appear as you play, guiding you on a narrative path of self-reflection.

• Prestige System: Reaching an "Epiphany" allows you to reset your progress. You will start anew, carrying over your wisdom to see the wall in a different light (and color!), with permanent bonuses to accelerate your next observation.

• Atmospheric Experience: Featuring procedurally generated sounds and a minimal, atmospheric design that reflects your in-game state of mind.

How to Play Controls

• Mouse: Move to observe, Left-Click to acknowledge imperfections.
• Keyboard Shortcuts:
  • T: Toggle the Torch (once unlocked).
  • C: Drink Coffee (if you have a brewed cup).
  • Shift + C: Brew a new cup of Coffee (costs Focus).

Getting Started

1. Click the "New Game" button.
2. Move your mouse over the wall to find flaws. They will come into focus when you are near them.
3. Click the flaws to earn your first Focus points.
4. Open the "Internal State" menu at the bottom of the screen to spend your Focus on your first upgrades.
5. Keep observing, and don't forget to manage your alertness!
